Innovative brain research offers new hope

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

The human brain is an incredible instrument, capable of untold abilities. Medical professionals and researchers worldwide are continually learning more about the vast capacities of this most complex of human organs. For those who are personally impacted by a neurological disorder, much of this research offers hope in the form of greater knowledge and understanding, and perhaps one day, a cure for conditions such as Hydrocephalus.

One remarkable researcher at the forefront of leading-edge neurological studies is neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor. Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened - as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding - she studied and remembered every moment. Her’s is a powerful story of recovery and awareness – and a look at how our brains define us and connect us to the world.
